Starocherkasskaya stanitsa is a true jewel of the region, the former capital of the Don Cossacks and a beautiful place rich in culture and traditions. While walking around the stanitsa you will come to see the main square, look into the Cossack houses called kureni, visit the sumptuous Resurrection Cathedral and learn more about the life and customs of the Cossacks.
The museum has more than 60 exhibits, which vividly illustrate the history of development of the railway machinery in the Don area. There are 14 steam locomotives, many of which are of pre-war manufacturing, 2 antique parlor cars, 11 freight cars, 5 electric locomotives, 4 diesel locomotives, 4 roadway machines, rail-mounted crane, and also rolling stock which came to Russia as a trophy during the war.
